Friday, July 18, 2014: 11:00 am (Olson): It's impossible to imagine a world without surveillance. Its presence reflects a symbiotic relationship with the State and hegemony as a whole. For years, artists have been using surveillance and surveillance technologies to engage and disrupt the surveillance apparatus. This talk will explore works by artists such as Steven Mann, Banksy, The Surveillance Camera Players, and many more working in the medium to answer the question of "how are we to engage with a surveillance society?"
